About AmCham Thailand
Formed in 1956 under a special chamber of commerce law with a membership of eight American companies with about 60 American nationals, the American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AmCham) has grown to over 600 company members which comprise of over 1200 professionals including companies, non-profit organizations, and individual professionals. AmCham is one among more than 20 foreign chambers of commerce legally registered in Thailand.
An Important Role
AmCham provides American businesses and businesspersons with a venue for the exchange of ideas and for identifying common purposes to pursue in both the private and government sectors, in Thailand, in the Asian region, and in the United States. AmCham also provides the focal point for channeling social service activities intended to benefit Thais and Thailand on an unofficial basis.
AmCham has no affiliation with the US Government or any of its components. However, AmCham is an accredited federation member of the US Chamber of Commerce and of the Asia-Pacific Council of American Chambers of Commerce (APCAC) with access to all their services and privileges.
AmCham is a member of the Board of Trade of Thailand and our president is automatically a member of the executive committee of that body. Through this channel, AmCham has access to information on economic and commercial activities within the country and maintains liaison with various ministries in the Royal Thai Government.
AmCham provides a point of exchange and coordination of efforts to improve business conditions and opportunities for private Americans and American companies.
At our office, a visitor or new arrival intending to do business in or with Thailand can obtain preliminary information and assistance without charge.
In addition to the Board of Governors, AmCham has more than 20 committees that cover the operational and social aspects of the organization, as well as a wide spectrum of commercial and industrial activity. Each serves as a forum for discussing common interests and common issues, as well as for taking initiative and action.
