About AmCham Japan

Established in 1948 by representatives of 40 American firms, the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) has grown into Japan’s most influential organization representing the interests of international businesses in Japan, with over 3,100 representatives of 1,300 companies from more than 40 countries. The ACCJ promotes commerce between the United States and Japan, supports measures to benefit and protect the interests of U.S. companies, and presents a variety of programs that keep Chamber members abreast of current business practices and trends.

Now in its fifty-sixth year, the ACCJ is Japan’s most influential international business organization.

The ACCJ is the primary forum for the U.S. business community in Japan to identify and pursue its common interests and goals. More than seventy Chamber committees and subcommittees cover areas such as financial services, health services and equipment, living in Japan issues, marketing, electronic commerce, and food and agriculture. Each committee meets on a regular basis to discuss issues and exchange ideas and information on topics relevant to its industry or profession, and present more than 400 events and seminars annually on policy and business trends in Japan. These programs feature world-class speakers drawn from the ranks of global business leaders, top U.S. and Japanese government officials, industry experts, and scholars. U.S. President Bill Clinton, Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn, “Father of the Internet” Vint Cerf, Virgin’s Sir Richard Branson, and many other movers and shakers have chosen the ACCJ as their forum for addressing Japan’s international business community.
